“I’m here to help!”

Certified Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor

Thanks for visiting my site!  I hope you’ll find lots of useful information here about accounting, bookkeeping and QuickBooks software.  Here’s a little bit of info about who I am and why I made this site.

My name is Michael Debyah, I am an accountant working in Massachusetts.  I am a Certified Public Accountant as well as an Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor®.  I have been working in public accounting for over 10 years and have worked with QuickBooks® since version 5.0 (after version 6.0 they started numbering by year, QuickBooks 99 being the first one).

My work has been primarily focused on small businesses, usually consisting of a handful of employees.  Working with a variety of clients in many different industries has helped me learn about small businesses in general and the challenges they face when it comes to accounting.  I have also learned how to customize QuickBooks to fit their varied needs.

A big problem facing small businesses today is finding good, qualified people to take care of their accounting and bookkeeping.  A lot of bookkeepers are limited in their skills and can’t handle some of the more complex situations that pop up.  This leads to more costs to the business as a CPA or other professional has to spend time fixing or cleaning up the mess that the bookkeeper left behind.

That’s one of the reasons I started this website.  I wanted to provide good information that explains accounting and bookkeeping so everyone can understand it.  You, the reader can ask questions and I will attempt to answer them.  Don’t be afraid of asking “a stupid question”.  I’m here to help!  I want to teach the dull, boring topic of accounting in an informal and interesting way.

I teach live QuickBooks seminars and one of the things that I’ve noticed while working with the students is that a lot of people want instructor led training but are hesitant about the cost, which is often $400 or more.  That’s another reason for this site.  I can teach people through the website and reach many more people at a more accessible price.

I also realize that a lot of people are currently unemployed and looking for work.  I want to provide quality training at a price that is affordable for almost anyone.  The accounting field is still going strong and now is a great time to learn new skills or to update your existing knowledge.

So, what is Full Contact Accounting?

Yeah, it’s a funny name right?  Well, I wanted something that stood out and was just different enough to be memorable.  Something that played off the idea of “accounting that’s not boring”.  I can’t claim that it’s an entirely original name though, one of my favorite poker players, Daniel Negreanu, has a site called “Full Contact Poker“.  I liked the name and borrowed it for this site!

The name also fits in with my ideology of teaching on this site.  I’m not just teaching accounting theory here.  I’m going to be mixing it up with real world examples and also teach you how things are done in an actual office setting.  It’s one thing to learn how to do a bank reconciliation from a textbook, but there are lots of things that they don’t teach you in school.  Like how to read and understand a bank statement, how to correct your reconciliation when things go horribly wrong, and how you should actually do that reconciliation in QuickBooks and what’s the best way to file it away when you’re done.

We’re not just going to study theory here, we’re going to get down and dirty and learn how to do the grunt work of accounting and bookkeeping.  That’s what makes it “Full Contact” Accounting!

I hope you enjoy the site and please let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Thanks!
